Workshop on sustainable solutions for radioactive waste management

MIMOSA Summer School on MSR
From 8 to 12 July, approximately sixty postgraduate students and professionals from across Europe benefitted from a week of lectures by MIMOSA and invited researchers at TU Delft’s Reactor Institute to acquire basic knowledge on the main aspects of the molten salt reactor technology and associated waste management.

General Assembly at TU Delft
From 21 to 22 May, the MIMOSA partners met at Delft University of Technology’s Radiation, Science & Technology Department for a General Assembly to review the progress achieved in the past six months.

MIMOSA presented to the UK and Korean MSR ecosystems
This month, MIMOSA’s coordinator presented our project to the Molten Salt Technology Platform coordinated by the United Kingdom’s National Nuclear Laboratory as well as at the Advanced MSR workshop organized by Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and Hanyang University – Institute for Energy and the Environment. MIMOSA research presented at NuFuel 2023
The MIMOSA partners attended the NuFuel Conference 2023 in Marseille to present research conducted within our project. TU Delft delivered a presentation on the corrosion behaviour of candidate MSR structural materials exposed to molten chloride salts and presented the poster “Experimental insight and modelling of the NaCl-ThCl4-PuCl3 fuel salt properties”. MIMOSA was presented by the project coordinator, Isabelle Morlaes (Orano), at the 16th Information Exchange Meeting on Actinide and Fission Product Partitioning and Transmutation (16IEMPT) organised by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The MIMOSA partners gathered at the Maison Irène et Frédéric Joliot-Curie (Brussels) this week to exchange on progress achieved during the the first year of the project and prepare the next phase in the research.

MIMOSA was presented at the SNETP Forum
MIMOSA was presented among other labelled projects during SNETP Forum that gathered the European research community in Gothenburg (Sweden). We had great discussions with participants on ongoing R&D projects and how MIMOSA contributes positively to waste management and recycling issues!

MIMOSA’s coordinator, Isabelle Morlaes (Orano), joined her counterparts from different Euratom research projects today in Brussels for an exchange of best practices and experiences organised by SNETP.

MIMOSA presented to the European Nuclear Education Network (ENEN)
The MIMOSA project was presented during the European Nuclear Education Network (ENEN) event attended by some 80 experts covering a variety of ENEN-related activities and EC-funded projects. Clear interested was allocated to our project particularly as it addresses nuclear energy system strategies with nuclear reactor innovation and fuel cycle and waste management innovation.

MIMOSA presented at the CEA-CNRS Bootcamp on MSR
Our project was presented at the CEA-CNRS Bootcamp on MSR that took place in Avignon (France) from 24-28 October 2022 by the coordinator, Isabelle Morlaes (Orano). The goal was to introduce MIMOSA to French MSR stakeholders and to identify potential synergies with other European or national research projects

The MIMOSA partners met for the first time!
The MIMOSA project held its kick-off meeting on 16-17 June 2022 at the Orano Innovation offices. The European Commission was represented at the meeting and reminded that the project is in line with Euratom’s objective of reducing the volume and radiotoxicity of nuclear waste.
